Dato’ Professor Dr. Rishya Manikam is Head and Senior Consultant Trauma & Emergency Physician at University Malaya Medical Centre, where he has led advancements in emergency and trauma care for over 20 years. His research and publications address critical areas of NCD management, including early detection and clinical presentation of dengue, trauma care for the ageing population, and innovations in critical care ultrasound and pulmonary health. Having trained more than 60% of Malaysia’s emergency physicians, he has shaped national capacity for acute and chronic NCD response. His academic impact is reflected in 88 publications and over 1,900 citations, with influential studies on respiratory compromise, drug safety, and sonographic diagnosis. Beyond academia, he champions community preparedness through first aid education, legal advocacy in injury-related cases, and specialised training in martial arts medicine. His leadership exemplifies an integrated approach to NCDs, spanning research, clinical practice, education, and community empowerment.
