Assoc. Prof. Dr. Baskaran Gunasekaran is a biochemist and Research Manager at UCSI University’s Centre of Excellence for Research, Value Innovation, and Entrepreneurship. With over 15 years of academic and research experience, he specializes in cholesterol metabolism, metabolic diseases, and phytotherapeutics, focusing on enzyme inhibition, transcriptomics, and toxicity evaluation of bioactive compounds. He has led and co-led numerous national and industry-funded grants on herbal formulations, nutraceuticals, and sustainable aquaculture, securing over RM 2.6 million in research funding. Dr. Baskaran has published extensively in high-impact journals, contributed book chapters and co-authored academic texts. His work bridges molecular mechanisms with clinical relevance, advancing integrative strategies for managing hypercholesterolemia and metabolic syndrome. He also serves on the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC) Biochemistry Standards Committee and has been recognized with multiple awards for teaching, research, and innovation.
