Prof. Dr. Chong Pei Pei is currently the Director for the Centre for Active Living, one of 5 university research centres in Taylor’s University Malaysia. Prof Chong had joined Taylor’s University in 2018 and was appointed as the Head of Research in 2019, and Director of the Digital Health and Medical Advancement Impact Lab in 2022. She completed her Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree at UMIST, the University of Manchester, U.K. under a Malaysian government JPA scholarship. Subsequently, she was awarded several scholarships from the UK to pursue her Ph.D. at the same university. She has extensive experience in teaching and research through her previous positions as Acting Deputy Dean (Research) in University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Visiting Research Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Prof Chong has a broad interest in diverse biomedical research fields ranging from infectious diseases to cancer genetics.
She has worked extensively on candidiasis and on drug-resistant bacteria. She also has a strong track record in research covering the molecular pathogenesis of cancers, especially for the types of cancers which have an etiological link to viruses including HPV-associated cervical cancer and EBV-related nasopharyngeal cancer. She has several patents granted from patent offices in Malaysia and overseas, and received research innovation awards both from her university as well as from international invention exhibitions. Her current research interests include trans-disciplinary studies that encompass integration of various fields such as applied microbiology, cancer prevention and chemotherapy and AI in the quest for improved diagnostics and therapeutics in line with the UN SDG3, Good Health and Well-being.
